The American dream was never American only. My generation, born in the last years of Soviet Union, had theirs too. When the Iron Curtain lifted, North America and the West Coast in particular became an embodiment of free new life. From 'Baywatch' and 'Pretty Women' on our TVs to hip hop songs in our CD players and low waist jeans in our wardrobes: we then earnestly gathered all the scraps of Californian glamour we could reach for. In Spring 2021, I traveled through the sceneries I have long known only as pictures on the screen to see for myself what it is we had dreamt of.
